Mia, our head trainer has an extensive background working with both pet and working dogs from a young age.

Where it started

Mia's origin story started with her rescue Jack Russell "Chica" who she took from rescue dog to super star, obtaining grade 5 in kennel club agility shows competing all over the UK to competing in the Open Junior Agility Championships at only 15 years old. 

Mia would exchange meeting up with school friends for training her first dog at the local park, and the passion became her addiction which lead to leaving School immediately to join the British Army as a dog handler. 

From training in the garden to training in the British Army

Mia then went from school straight to the doors of Pirbright ATC at only 19 years old. From her research this was the quickest way to get her hands on some working dogs, upon passing selection of which Mia was 1/10 candidates from over 500 applicants, mia then moved to Germany as a patrol dog handler. Mia was posted all over the UK and Germany for many training exercises and taskings with her first working dog Military Working Dog Joe. 

During this period Mia found her passion for decoy work and completed a decoy course under Graeme Jones and Andy Ardle - who led to her obtaining her first privately owned working dog Nova. 

Soldier to Civilian 

Upon discharge from the British Army in 2020 with her puppy Nova, during arguably the hardest time the United Kingdom has faced due to the health scare COVID-19. Due to severe lack of work due to the pandemic Mia set out to help others struggling with their dogs, Mia created her own dog training business Voodoo K9 Academy in Durham, North East England which was the most successful dog trianing business in the North East England at the time of Mias ownership of the business from 2020-early 2025.

During this period Mia found a sport called PSA - Protection Sports Association. An American sport that had came to the UK, Mia successfully trained her Dutch Herder, Nova upto PSA 2 and her Belgian Malinois, Viper to PSA1 who has now gone onto be a successful patrol dog for His Majesties Prison Service.

Mia also developed a passion for physiotherapy and hydrotherapy due to the toll that this chosen career for her dogs takes on their bodies. Nova sustained a few injuries during training accidents, this lead to Mia developing a hydroptherapy centre in Durham, which remains today! Treating all kinds of dogs for musculoskeletal injuries and conditions.

In 2025, Mia decided to move closer towards where her passion takes her, working and sporting protection dogs. During this, Ian Morgan from Lorockmor Working Dogs offered Mia the platform and opportunity to fulfill her passion for working dogs and offer pet dog owners her services.
